WHO AM I?

Dennis Hodgson is the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Burlington Stores a $10B Off Price Retailer with over 900+ doors nationally. Mr. Hodgson has responsibility for hardware, software and telecom infrastructure. Mr. Hodgson provided the technical roadmap that helped drive a highly successful IPO taking the company from a $3B market cap to nearly $20B.

 

Prior to Burlington, Mr. Hodgson served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at A.C. Moore, an arts and crafts retailer and Vice President of Information Systems at Foot Locker, Inc, a global footwear and apparel retailer with over 4,000 stores. Mr. Hodgson has over twenty-eight years of experience in selecting and integrating large-scale e-commerce, point of sale, merchandising, human resource, logistics, and financial systems. He has previously been the Chief Operating Officer of HealthQuest Inc. a division of Staff Builders Home Health Care.

Mr. Hodgson is widely known in the industry as an effective change catalyst and executive developer. Three of Mr. Hodgson's protégé's went directly from his mentorship into CIO roles with multi-billion dollar retailers. In addition, one has gone on to CTO at a $8B plus retailer, while three others are serving as VP's with broad responsibilities. All of these executives are serving their organizations today exceptionally and are gaining reputations themselves of building winning teams and developing people.

 

In addition to Mr. Hodgson's accomplished corporate career, he has had a number of notable successes in entrepreneurial endeavors.  Mr. Hodgson owns and operates through his Real Estate Management Company, Globix Holdings LLC, a portfolio of residential and commercial rental properties.  Additionally, Mr. Hodgson owned and sold to a National Provider a chain of Home Health Care Companies.  Other entrepreneurial accomplishments include two successful car dealerships in Central Pa, an award winning SEO Consulting Company, and an International Trade Consulting Company.

Burlington Stores– Burlington, New Jersey                                      February 2010–present

Burlington Stores, formerly, Burlington Coat Factory is a $10B off-price retailer offering an array of brand name hard goods at deeply discounted prices. The company was taken private by Bain Capital with the intent of growing the model, investing in technology and expanding the E-commerce reach to position the organization for IPO.  In October 2013 we achieved our goal of becoming publicly traded with an overwhelming positive response from the financial community.

Executive Vice President / Chief Information Officer

Lead a staff of 230 IT professionals responsible for establishing and implementing information technology strategies and infrastructure to meet business objectives and requirements for over 680+ store locations, a corporate headquarters, four warehouse facilities, and E-commerce site.

  • Evaluated and implemented the Oracle Retail Merchandising Suite in under 14 months

  • Negotiated a new telecom contract mid-contract that reduced voice and data cost by $1.5 million annually.

  • Implemented 4R Advanced Forecasting for a $36 million sales lift on replenished goods.

  • Implemented a new e-commerce platform based on Mediachase with capabilities to support a projected $200M in sales.  Increased sales 107% in the first 8 months.

  • Rolled out new point-of-sale (POS) with a focus on cross channel integration with e-commerce.

A.C. Moore, Inc. – Berlin, New Jersey                                                   November 2006–February 2010

A.C. Moore is a specialty retailer offering a vast selection of arts, crafts, and floral merchandise to a broad demographic of customers. Founded in Moorestown, New Jersey in 1985, the company has grown to 140 stores in the Eastern United States from Maine to Florida. In October 2007, A.C. Moore launched its ecommerce site, www.acmoore.com.

Senior Vice President / Chief Information Officer & GM of E-Commerce

Lead a staff of 60 IT professionals responsible for establishing and implementing information technology strategies and infrastructure to meet business objectives and requirements for 140 store locations, a corporate headquarters, two warehouse facilities, and an actively selling E-commerce site. Established a highly effective project lifecycle (PLC) and full test environment in an organization that had no IT disciplines in place. Implemented practices that brought the organization up to SOX404 and PCI compliance standards. Recruited top-level professionals and coached under performers to improve or leave.

  • Evaluated and selected the Oracle Retail Merchandising Suite that, when fully implemented,  automated replenishment and product allocation and saved $40 million in inventory-management costs annually.

  • Negotiated a new telecom contract mid-contract that reduced voice and data cost by $1 million annually.

  • Implemented a perpetual inventory management system that reduced inventory by 22%.

  • Implemented ACMoore.com, a Web presence that has generated $4 million in sales in the first year and that became profitable in the first three months.

 

Foot Locker, Inc.  (footlocker.com)– Wausau, Wisconsin                       August 1995–November 2006

A $6B global retailer of athletic and casual footwear for adults, adolescents, and children with almost 4,000 stores worldwide and more than 20 e-commerce sites. Over $400M transacted online.

Vice President, Information Systems, Wausau, WI, 2005–2006

Directed all information and telecommunication systems operations, including setting strategic direction, business capital planning, and expense budgeting, including maintenance of telecommunications for a 2500-person call center. Oversaw procurement of data center hardware and managed 3rd party relationships to drive maximum return on investment from infrastructure investments.

  • Evaluated and selected ATG and Cold Fusion on Sun hardware to manage more than 20 e-commerce sites, and oversaw the installation of footlocker.com, NFLshop.com, ladyfootlocker.com, and champssports.com.

  • Restructured the IT department from a maintenance shop that relied on third-party contractors to a high-caliber development team.

  • Installed a cross-channel gift card on Web sites that allows purchase and redemption in stores or online.

 

Foot Locker, Inc.

Senior Director, Corporate Systems, Camp Hill, PA, 2000–2005

Directed Store Systems (POS systems), Decision Support, Lotus Notes, Human Resources, and Financial Client-Server applications in an IBM mainframe/UNIX RS6000 environment that included corporate inventory, logistics, and financial systems. Supervised 4 Senior Managers, 5 Project Managers, 73 Application Developers, 11 Database Administrators, and 2 Technical Team Analysts and planned and administered a $45 million annual budget.

  • Recommended and installed a new $42 million POS System that enables real time applications such as Stock Locator, CRM, Hourly Flash Sales Reporting, and Labor Scheduling over a wireless network. 

  • Successfully reduced the IT budget by more than 17% for three consecutive years despite capitalized fixed-costs.

  • Recommended and implemented an in-store Labor Scheduling Package that maximizes the efficient use of store labor and is projected to generate a wage rate improvement of 2% to 5%.

  • Recommended and installed Stock Locator software that integrated the E-Commerce, Catalogue, and Store Operations; leverages inventories worldwide, and enables store-to-store and store-to-warehouse inventory lookups and automated transfers. The system achieved an annual sales lift of $80 million.

  • Chosen to serve as Chairman of the CRS Advisory Board by fellow CIOs.

Director, Finance/HR Information Systems and Technical Services, Camp Hill, PA 1997–2000

Managed development and operations of the Human Resource, Financial Client Server, and Mainframe Software Applications in a UNIX RS6000 environment. Supervised 2 Senior Managers, 3 Project Managers, 41 Application Developers, 11 Database Administrators, and 7 Technical Team Analysts.

  • Recommended and implemented several initiatives that led to savings of more than $3 million.

  • Renegotiated software license agreements to save $2 million and automated a benefits open-enrollment package that integrated directly into our Oracle structures for PeopleSoft HRMS to save $800 million.

  • Released a team of 75 consultants who were managing the installation of the PeopleSoft Client Server Applications and with no additional staff went live with HRMS for all U.S. Divisions in June 1999, effecting a planned capital reduction of $45 million.

Senior Manager Finance, Camp Hill, PA 1995–1997

Led Payroll Operations, HRMS Implementation Department, Payroll Accounting, Tax Department, and Stores Accounting, supervising a staff of six executives and thirty-six analysts reporting to me. Wrote and consulted on various system enhancements to DBS G/L and Payroll Systems. Business Owner and Project Manager of the People Soft Human Resource and Payroll Implementation Team for year 2000 system requirements for maintaining and reconciling more than 1000 General Ledger Accounts ($850 million annually) in accordance with GAP. The system managed Tax Remittances in excess of $375 million annually.

  • Recommended and implemented several profit-improvement initiatives that reduced expenses by $3million.

  • Centralized all payrolls into the Camp Hill site, saving $2.1 million.

 

 

HealthQuest, Inc. – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania                                             January 1991–August 1995

The firm operated home health agencies in the Harrisburg area and employed approximately 300.

Managed all operations, building the franchise and selling to a national provider.

  • Grew a start-up agency to more than $11.5 million in revenue in the first year of operation.

  • Received Joint Commission Accreditation with Commendations.

Directed all operational support systems including payroll, tax accounting, accounts receivable and payable, financial reporting, and tax reporting. Explored competing agencies for possible acquisition or franchising.
